The Master Debriefer Course


The Immersive 3-day course focuses on improving debriefing skills by weaving through several important elements of debriefing and feedback practice.  The aim of the course is to provide the knowledge and tools necessary for healthcare educators and practitioners to become proficient debriefers.  Debriefing is a tool that can become a vehicle supporting positive change and improved patient outcomes within healthcare systems.


Course Objective

In the Master Debriefer Course, healthcare practitioners will learn the essential skills required to facilitate effective debriefing conversations, including:

  • Creating and maintaining a safe environment for learning conversations.
  • Tailoring advanced debriefing techniques to learning context.
  • Nurturing an environment for learner-centeredness during debriefing.
  • Working effectively and efficiently with a co-facilitator.
  • Managing difficult and/or emotional learning conversations.
  • Understanding the role of culture in debriefing and feedback.


The workshop will include lectures, small group discussions and videos , Interactive role play exercises coupled with feedback from the expert faculty providing the opportunity for the participants to master key debriefing skills.


Who Should Attend

  • Senior simulation faculty from medical, nursing and allied health
  • Faculty who are involved in creating programs for development of procedural, surgical & team skills in their learners
  • Faculty who will conduct future debriefing courses in SIMS
