Labour Ward Intrapartum Workshop


This workshop will cover the latest trends and rising challenges in the management of mothers in labour. Participants will gain better insights on techniques in delivery and issues in peripartum care.


Course Outline

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Review and understand the latest trends in the management of mothers in labour on the labour ward
  • Discuss the implications of the Montgomery Ruling for maternity care professionals
  • Understand the rising challenges of mothers in labour addressing issues such as obesity in pregnancy, shoulder dystocia and advances in the management of major obstetric haemorrhage
  • Review the techniques in the safe use of forceps and Kiwi cup vacuum delivery and understand the potential implications that the Odon device may have on second stage management
  • Revise the techniques for unusual labour challenges including twin delivery, breech delivery and the baby in face presentation
  • Revise the techniques for unusual labour challenges including twin delivery, breech delivery and the baby in face presentation
  • Discuss extreme issues in peripartum care including delivery of high-risk pregnancy mothers, maternal care in intensive care, fetal outcomes in extreme prematurity, trauma in pregnant women and perimortem delivery


Target Audience

Faculty who are responsible for creating programs for development of procedural or surgical skills in their learners.
