Endoscopic Simulation Workshop

This Endoscopic Simulation Workshop is primarily an introduction to simulation training. Participants will be shown how to utilise the various modules in the simulators to improve their skills in gastroscopy and colonoscopy. These modules include administration and use of sedation, case scenarios as well as biopsies and polypectomies. The simulators allow for assessment of percentage of mucosa visualization, rate of missed lesions as well as a log of the number of bowel perforations during the course of training.

This is a training course that has a practical curriculum spanning of 3 to 6 months.  Participants will be provided with 6 months open access to Surgical Simulation Centre, allowing them continued practice on the simulators at their leisure. Participants, after 6 months, should be confident of the technicalities of endoscopy and be better able to begin their training on patients.

Course Objective

Trainees will gain understanding on the basic principles in endoscopy. They will acquire skills and knowledge in handling the endoscope, finer points in gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

At the end of the workshop, trainees should be confident of the technicalities of endoscopy and be better able to begin their training on patients. Trainees will be entitled to 6 months access to the Surgical Simulation Centre (in front of L2-T1, level 2, Academia) after the familiarisation course. “Certificate of Attendance” will be issued to those who attend 75% of the workshop and complete the post-course training.

Target Audience

This workshop is strongly recommended as a basic training programme for residents from General Surgery, Gastroenterology and Hepatology and Internal Medicine.  It is also recommended for House Officers, Medical Officers and any interested clinicians who seek to equip themselves with the basic endoscopy techniques.
