Asst Prof Swaine Chen is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the National University of Singapore, and a Senior Research Scientist at the Genome Institute of Singapore. His research interests include, the application of genomics to understanding molecular mechanisms of urinary tract infection, particularly those caused by Escherichia coli. He specialises in the bacterial genetics and manipulation of wild type clinical isolates, which helps in understanding pathogenesis and antibiotic resistance as well as in creating new tools for synthetic biology. In addition, he has expertise in the application of genomics for investigation of outbreaks of bacterial disease.
