Assoc Prof Louis Tong is senior consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre and principal clinician scientist, head of research training and development, head of ocular surface research group at the Singapore Eye Research Institute. He is a faculty member and Associate Professor in the Eye-Academic Clinical programme at Duke-NUS Medical School, and holds a joint adjunct position at the Department of Ophthalmology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore(NUS). Assoc Prof Tong completed a two-year biomedical fellowship at the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas, U.S.A. He completed his ophthalmology training in 2004 and obtained his PhD degree from NUS in 2009.
Assoc Prof Tong has been involved in research, education and clinical treatment related to dry eye and ocular surface inflammation for over 10 years. He is an international recognised speaker, clinician and researcher, and has published extensively in numerous medical journals and books. He is council member of Asia Dry Eye Society, involved in advisory board meetings in several pharmaceutical companies. He is a subcommittee member of international dry eye workshop II, and a co-inventor in a few patents. He has been awarded the NMRC clinician-scientist award (senior investigator) twice, and runs a dedicated dry eye clinic.
