Speaker: Prof Ng Chirk Jenn




Prof Ng Chirk Jenn, is a Professor of Family Medicine from Department of Primary Care Medicine, University of Malaya, Malaysia. Prof Ng’s medical career began in Singapore after completing his MBBS in National University of Singapore. He went on to obtain the MMed in Family Medicine in 1998, before joining University of Malaya in 2000. He obtained his PhD from Sheffield, UK in 2011. Prof Ng has special interests in shared decision-making, evidence-based medicine, men’s health and eHealth.

Shared decision-making (SDM) is an approach where patients and healthcare providers discuss, negotiate and agree on a preference-sensitive decision such as prostate cancer screening and insulin initiation in type 2 diabetes. 

At the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
• Understand the concept of shared decision-making
• Know when to practice SDM in the context of primary care
• Learn different approaches to implement SDM
• Use a patient decision aid to engage patients in SDM
