"Rehabilitation Medicine was the perfect match for myself"

As with every start to a new journey, starting Senior residency in Rehabilitation Medicine has been a steep learning curve. However, my peers, seniors and administration have been extremely understanding, kind and patient with myself. It has made the learning process an enjoyable one, and I have always felt supported and guided through each step of the way thus far.

Since starting junior residency, I've always wanted to pursue a career that provides holistic and comprehensive care for patients, being able to follow up with each patient's journey longitudinally, working closely with our allied health and community partners. I've also always enjoyed doing procedures.

As a Senior Resident, I enjoy the opportunity in being more empowered and involved in managing my patients' care, with the continued opportunity to continue learning and improving myself and skills along the way.

"There is a well-structured programme which facilitates a good balance of service obligations, education and research."

The strong teaching culture and nurturing Faculty attracted me to train in Rehabilitation Medicine with SingHealth. The rigorous curriculum allows residents to learn regularly from subspecialty experts. The wide case-mix across the range of SingHealth training institutions allows for plenty of hands-on experience in procedures under supervision including diagnostic ultrasonography, botulinum toxin injections, steroid injections, etc.

Through the variety of rotations over 3 years, every resident is able to experience a kaleidoscope of learning and working cultures. Our dedicated Faculty are readily approachable and available to help us navigate the breadth and depth of this specialty, as well as encouraging our professional development.

"In Rehabilitation Medicine, we do not just look at prolonging life. We aim to prolong quality life."

The experience with Rehabilitation Medicine (RMD) has been very fruitful and fascinating. There has been exposure to different evidence-based interventions since the start of the training, with gradual move towards more autonomy in making guided decisions and leading the overall rehabilitation plans and management for the patients.

Being able to witness the impact of what we do in RMD on these patients makes it a rewarding journey!

The Rehabilitation Medicine team at Singhealth are also very approachable and I find it easy to ask for help when needed.
