Message from ADIO, Research
The SingHealth Clinician Scientist (CS) Residency track was designed to provide the support, opportunities and guidance for SingHealth residents who are keen to pursue a career as a Clinician Scientist. CS Residency aims to nurture residents interested in research and innovation. The SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre (AMC) is committed to the development of academic clinicians, and the SingHealth CS Residency programme is a key element, as our residents are the future clinicians in our AMC.
CS Residency is a nationwide programme, designed to include protected time, funding opportunities and mentoring. As such, CS residents can pursue the rigorous clinical training as a resident, as well as research/innovation activities. The programme also involves research/innovation training for the development of the knowledge and skills needed for a successful academic career. In addition, every CS Resident is matched to a research mentor, who will support, guide and oversee their professional development.
At SingHealth, the GME office is responsible for the CS Residency track, providing oversight of the overall programme and of individual CS residents, as well as administrative and organisational support for resident programmes with CS residents.
If you have the passion to pursue a research career as a Clinician Scientist, you should consider the CS Residency track. We would be keen to meet with you and tell you more about the track, and help guide you in your consideration and application.

In addition, CS Residents will be eligible to apply for the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) seed funding to start their pilot research projects.
Research Training
The MCI is a two-year part-time programme. Residents can embark on the MCI at any Residency year as long as the Residency training requirements are also met. Residents have to obtain the PD’s endorsement as well as the Residency Advisory Committee’s (RAC’s) approval.
Residents who have already obtained research qualifications (e.g. PhD) may be exempted from MCI, subjected to SAB Research Committee's (SRC) approval.
Your Career Prospects & Development
CS Residents can look forward to furthering your research career in areas such as cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, infectious diseases, neurological and sense disorders. Residents can expect to take their professional development to the next level and progress along the academic and clinical ranks within their respective Duke-NUS SingHealth Academic Clinical Programmes (ACP).
