Making The "Write" Choice: Selecting The Appropriate Journal For Your Research


Written up your research, but don’t know where to publish it? This workshop is intended to assist beginning researchers understand journal diversity and its relevance to authors, as well as areas to consider when selecting an appropriate outlet (journal) for their manuscripts. The workshop consists of two hours of instruction.

Learning Objectives

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Journal diversity and its relevance to authors
  • Factors to consider when selecting a journal (given as an easily-remembered mnemonic)
  • Possible strategies to adopt in selecting a journal
  • Alternative methods of selecting journals
  • Precautions to take when selecting a journal


At the end of the workshop, attendees should understand what goes into selecting an appropriate journal for their research and be able to make better informed decisions in that regard.

Target Audience

Administrators, clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals starting out in scientific research and have prepared/are preparing a manuscript for submission to a journal.

Dr Ng Heok Hee

About the Trainer:
Heok Hee is currently the managing editor for the Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare. He received his PhD in Biology from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has extensive experience in research and scientific writing. He has published 200 papers in scientific journals, six chapters in five books, and 25 articles for popular magazines.
