Assoc Prof Maria Athina (Tina) Martimianakis is Associate Professor and the Director of Medical Education Scholarship at the Department of Paediatrics, and Scientist and Strategic Lead International at the Wilson Centre for Research in Education, University of Toronto. Her research contributes to both theory building and educational practice. Drawing on critical social science theories and Foucauldian discourse analysis, Assoc Prof Tina studies the material effects of discourse and other power relations, particularly in relation to interprofessional dynamics and professional identities.
Currently, Assoc Prof Tina is researching how organisational practices associated with discourses of collaboration support or hinder the capacity of interprofessional teams to practice and learn together. She is also researching the effects of organisational change agendas on health professional identity negotiations.
