Assoc Prof Gooley is an Associate Professor in the Neuroscience and Behavioural Disorders Programme at Duke-NUS Medical School. He is Principal Investigator of the Chronobiology and Sleep Laboratory at Singapore General Hospital. He has been involved in research on sleep and circadian rhythms over the past 15 years, and he is Vice President of the Singapore Sleep Society. In 2005, he received his Ph.D. in Neurobiology from Harvard Medical School (HMS), where he studied neural pathways that mediate entrainment of circadian rhythms. During his postdoctoral fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (Boston, United States of America) and HMS, he investigated effects of light on human circadian rhythms and melatonin. His current research programme at Duke-NUS focuses on understanding the role of sleep and circadian rhythms in regulating human performance and physiology.
