High Fidelity Manikin

High-fidelity Manikin

A high-fidelity manikin exhibits the behaviours of a human, which allows for the reproduction of real-life scenarios in a safe learning environment for trainees. High-fidelity manikins are also used for in situ trainings to identify latent threats and improve team communication.

High-fidelity manikins can also simulate a wide range of lifelike physiological and physical findings that train learners to detect and manage clinical changes. These manikins are commonly used for training in critical care and emergency scenarios as well as simulation-based programmes that aim to enhance the non-technical skills of clinical teams.

Task Trainers

For specific clinical skills training, task trainers are used. Task Trainers are able to simulate scenarios that require ECG monitoring and management. They are often used for in situ or laboratory code blue drills as well as clinical scenarios that do not require complex physiological change or manikin verbal responses.

SIMS has a wide range of task trainers for various skills trainings.

Full-Body-Task-Trainers

A) Full Body Task Trainers

Full-body Task Trainers are able to simulate scenarios that require ECG monitoring and management. They are often used for in situ or laboratory code blue drills as well as clinical scenarios that do not require complex physiological change or manikin verbal responses.

The Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) manikin is used in the training of clinical interventions during a cardiac arrest. The manikin can be used to generate different cardiac arrest rhythms. The interventions that can be performed on the ACLS manikin are Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), intubation, defibrillation and pacing.

Part-Task-Trainers 2

B) Part-task Trainers

A wide range of Part-task Trainers are used to train medical teams for specific clinical skills. Some task trainers available in SIMS include:

  • Airway management trainers
  • Knee aspiration models
  • Lumbar puncture simulators
  • Obstetrics training task trainers
  • Ultrasound central line training models
  • Intravenous training arms
  • Wound models
  • Sternotomy manikins

Laproscopic-Task-Trainers

C) Box Trainers & Minimally Invasive Trainers

Laparoscopy, endoscopy and colonoscopy trainers are available to learners who seek to develop proficiencies and sharpen their clinical skills across a range of basic to advanced surgical procedures in various minimally invasive surgeries.

Medical Equipment and Surgical Tools

To support continuous learning and enhance patient safety, SIMS is equipped with a wide variety of medical equipment and surgical tools to support surgical skills training and research. Some of these equipment and tools are:

  • Laparoscopic towers with instruments
  • Surgical microscopes
  • Diathermy machines
  • Basic and specialised surgical instruments
  • Disinfection and autoclave machines, etc.

Standardised Patients

A Standardised Patient (SP) is a person who portrays a patient a simulated environment. SPs are frequently being used in many workshops to enhance the complexity of scenarios, permit interaction with “real” patients and provide participants with true-to-life life experiences.

To grow our pool of trained SPs to meet our diverse training needs, SIMS conducts training to develop SPs so that they can portray patients with various clinical histories.
