Singapore Integrated Programme (SGIP) for Hand Surgery


About the Programme

The Singapore Integrated Programme (SGIP) for Hand Surgery is a six-year programme that will equip you to be a proficient Hand Surgeon. Affiliated to a nationwide Hand Surgery specialist training programme that is a world-first, Residents are trained to manage all conditions affecting hand and upper limb function. 

We nurture our Residents to be technically competent and to have a strong grounding in knowledge and concept. We expect them to be dynamic so as to develop important cognitive processes that will make them excellent Hand Surgeons. We aim to produce Hand Surgeons who are strong clinically and academically; in research as well as education.

If you are passionate about Hand Surgery and perseverance and attention to detail describes you, you may like to consider a career in Hand Surgery with us. You are invited to join the programme after completing your Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1)

As of July 2020 intake, new Residents will be enrolled under the SGIP for Hand Surgery, with National University Health System (NUHS) as the administrative centre.

Robust Teaching Programme and Bright Opportunities
Our Residents will benefit from a well-organised teaching programme incorporating the specialist Hand Surgery National Training Programme. Residents can also join the regular activities organised by the Chapter of Hand Surgeons and the Singapore Society of Hand Surgery. These will provide ample education opportunities for you and your peers.
Your Career Prospects & Development

Our graduates would qualify to be Associate Consultants in Hand Surgery in any of the hospitals in Singapore. In addition, they will find it easy to secure international fellowship training in Hand Surgery where they may want to focus on subspecialty areas, which include, but are not limited to, Wrist, Micro-reconstruction, Congenital, Oncology, Brachial Plexus and Trauma or Joint Replacement.
