As I look back on 2025, I am reminded of how humbling, fulfilling and yet challenging the past year has been.
Stepping into the role of a Chief Resident as a relatively junior Registrar meant having to refocus my priorities and grow as both a clinician and a leader. This dual responsibility shaped much of my year as I learnt to balance my fellow Residents’ growth and learning without neglecting my own training as a budding neurologist. The common goal here is to ensure that we can all be developed to our fullest potential.
These new priorities meant having to actively look out for learning opportunities as well as strengthen the internal processes that support our Senior Residents’ learning to create a more robust training ecosystem. Ensuring clarity in our schedules, having protected time for learning and balancing manpower rosters are far more than just an administrative arrangement. It shapes our training, influences how we grow as Residents and determines how we serve our patients.

This year has also deepened my understanding of what being people-centred truly means. I am profoundly grateful to my mentors, Faculty members and seniors who have guided and shaped me through their teachings. They have not only imparted invaluable lessons in patient care but honed my leadership capabilities as well. I am equally appreciative of the support from my peers whose perspectives and collaborative efforts have enriched and strengthened the experiences shared together.

Meet the Neurology Faculty family.
As I hand over the baton as Chief Resident, I would like to offer two parting messages.
To the future Chief Residents: Always be ready to listen… respect the perspectives and concerns of your peers and juniors, while balancing the direction and priorities of the organisation. From there, shape your own vision and set the tone that brings out the best in your fellow Residents to help them grow to their fullest potential.
To incoming Residents: Never stop learning whether from our patients, your seniors, peers or juniors. As you go through your Residency training, remember to take a step back and remember what grounds you; what truly matters to you, what brings you fulfilment and ultimately, why you chose to pursue this profession.
