Intensive Care Preparedness Training (ICPT) Course
In the climate of a disease outbreak, there is an urgent need for skilled nurses to provide safe care to patients requiring advance medical support. This course aims to equip nurses in a short period of time with the essential skills to deliver safe and holistic care that improve patients’ outcomes in ICU setting.
At this course, participants will learn to:
Discuss the needs for assisted ventilation
Assist in intubation and extubation
Outline the roles of nurses in the different modalities in invasive ventilation
Interpret arterial blood gas results and recommend corrective actions
Recognize common arrhythmias in critically ill patients and manage the situations
Recognize the haemodynamic changes in critically ill patients and escalation of management
Discuss the infection control practices in ICU
Outline the use of non- invasive ventilation
Outline the use of inotropic and sedative drugs and neuromuscular blocking agents
Discuss the sedation protocol in ICU
Outline the care of patient with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy
Discuss nursing care for patients with respiratory failure, shock/sepsis
Discuss the nursing management of patient with neurological monitoring
Discuss the nursing management of patient with acute coronary syndrome, congestive heart failure and open heart surgery
Demonstrate the ability in:
Endotracheal intubation and Extubation
Management of patients on mechanical ventilation
Management of patient on Non-invasive ventilation
Endo tracheal Suctioning
Performing Sedation Monitoring in ICU
Operating Transport Ventilator Impact (EMV+)
Target Audience
Registered Nurses
With a least 1 year of working experience in ICA or HD
Identified to work in PACU
Exclusion criteria
Advanced Diploma in critical care or currently working in ICU
