Clinical Instructor Development Programme (CIDP)

The Clinical Instructor (CI) Course aims to prepare and develop RNs with the requisite knowledge, skills, and attributes for an effective role in clinical supervision and assessment of student nurses and new nurses to ensure safe patient care.

At this course, participants will learn to:

Describe the roles and responsibilities of a clinical instructor in nursing
Discuss the principles of clinical supervision
Explore different learning styles and teaching strategies to meet students/learners’ needs
Apply and facilitate reflective learning in practice
Discuss best practices in assessing and verifying students’ clinical learning and achievement of expected competencies
Apply assessment methods used by various education institutions to achieve expected learning outcomes
Provide constructive feedback and encourage improvements
Apply tools to evaluate clinical learning environment
Apply best practices in communication skills with students, colleagues and other healthcare staff
Conduct clinical supervision of a group of students
Manage common student learning issues

Target Audience

Registered Nurses

Minimum of three years’ clinical experience
Minimum one year of clinical preceptor experience
Preferably an advanced diploma or post-graduate diploma in nursing/equivalent for speciality areas
