Prevention of Perinatal Depression
Track Type: Symposium | Date: 20 October 2023, Friday| Time: 1205 - 1220 | Speaker: Assoc Prof Shefaly Shorey
The perinatal period is a stressful transition period for new parents. Parents are at risk of developing postpartum depression which can affect the well-being of the newborn. There is a need to support parents across the perinatal period. The latest advancements in technology have favoured the use of telemedicine, especially Mobile-Health Applications as a new edge in healthcare innovation. In this presentation, I will present global trends in perinatal depression and will share my research work that has been focusing on supporting parents, especially in the prevention of perinatal depression in the past decade in Singapore. I am hoping that through my reflections the participants especially nurses will gain some insights into developing evidence-based supportive interventions to support parents in Singapore and beyond.
