St Luke’s Hospital (SLH) HealthClub conducted a quasi-experimental study with a group of NUHS Doctors, with quantitative and qualitative research elements to study the physical and mental wellness of the staff of SLH. The interventions comprised of “Me 2.0 Challenge”, a creative initiative which utilized gamification, self-empowerment, and support. Another initiative, “Dear Diary”, an online platform was offered to employees to share their concerns with follow-up and advice. Other initiatives include workshops such as cooking, virtual tours, art, tea appreciation, to promote wellness and exercise classes to promote physical health. In addition, Cultural Day event was held, and Mental Boards were placed within their work zones, which allowed employees to encourage one another and build resilience.
In the data analysis, qualitative interviews shown themes focused on homesickness, reduction in physical activity and healthy eating, and importance of supportive work environment. Survey among 2.0 Challenge participants reported coping with stress quite well. Another survey (n=201) reported high overall satisfaction among staff with HealthClub’s activities. In addition, staffs’ health screening report (n=219) shown a decrease in abnormal LDL category. Overall, results have shown that interventions had some impact on staff’s health and well-being. Future studies suggested to have targeted need assessment for high-risk groups.
