Mr Jyri has got over 20 years of experience in the field of sterilization consumables and equipment manufacturing and sales, and currently holds the position of Global Sales Manager at Wipak. His extensive experience spans across the globe, having worked with sterile processing departments worldwide. His travels have taken him to nearly 80 countries, providing him with the unique opportunity to observe a diverse range of practices for reprocessing, packing, and sterilizing instruments in hospitals and Central Sterile Supply Departments (CSSDs). This exposure, combined with his wide knowledge of sterilization methods, manufacturing, testing of sterile barrier systems, standardization, regulatory requirements, and usability data of sterilization packaging solutions, has equipped him with a robust understanding of sterilization packaging usage and its role in enhancing patient outcomes. He has been a speaker at CSSD events in numerous countries across four continents. Furthermore, he has been writing some articles for CSSD-related books and magazines mainly in Europe. Jyri says he is trying to live according to his company’s motto: We Care That You Pack Safely!

SC 6 - Modes of Sterilization and Effective Sterile Barrier Systems

In this presentation, we will investigate the critical aspects of sterile barrier systems (SBS). Our focus includes various sterilization methods used in hospital, the impact of hospital environments, and the advantages of different SBS types such as sterilization rolls, pouches, and wrapping sheets. By examining barrier properties, packaging speed, shelf life, and aseptic presentation features, we aim to uncover some ideas for improving instrument turnaround times, promoting sustainability, and reducing costs—all while enhancing patient outcomes.
