Klement Low is the Managing Director of Yarrow Medical Holdings Pte Ltd, a Singapore-based healthcare supply company specializing in medical device distribution and infection preventionand control (IPC) technologies. Under his leadership, Yarrow Medical has introduced a range of healthcare technologies to hospitals across Singapore, spanning surgical devices, hospital-grade disinfection and decontamination systems, and infection control solutions, supporting hospitals instrengthening patient safety and environmental risk management. He leads a team committed to bringing scientifically and clinically validated solutions into everyday healthcare practice, working closely with hospital IPC teams as well as Environmental Services and Facilities Management departments, whose evaluation and implementation support is integral to translating IPC approvedsolutions into practice, alongside international manufacturers to ensure the technologies introduced are grounded in sound evidence. Klement holds a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Medical Microbiology and Immunology from UNSW and an MBA from Nanyang Business School, with executive education from UC Berkeley and The Wharton School — abackground spanning clinical science, engineering, and business leadership that shapes his work atthe intersection of healthcare supply chain management and sustainability.

SC 5 - From Landfill Targets to the Ward:  Evaluating Non-Burn Waste Technologies for Singapore's Healthcare Sector

As Singapore's healthcare sector works toward MOH's net-zero-2050 commitment and NEA's ZeroWaste Masterplan targets, clinical waste management remains an underexamined lever — hospitalsstill rely heavily on incineration even as national policy pushes toward waste-to-landfill reduction andhigher recycling rates. This session surveys the current landscape of non-burn treatment technologies— steam autoclaving, chemical disinfection, and microwave-based on-site systems — comparing whatpublished evidence from comparable healthcare systems internationally tells us about theirdisinfection efficacy, operational footprint, and environmental performance. Rather than advocatingfor a single technology, the talk offers hospital administrators, IPC leads, and facilities andenvironmental services teams a practical framework for evaluating non-burn options against theirown operational constraints: throughput needs, capital versus operating cost, water and energy use,staff training burden, and regulatory pathway
