Presentation Synopsis
HM 9 - It Takes a Village to Manage Abuse and Harassment in the Healthcare Ecosystem
Empathy is a Superpower
In her presentation, SPAN member Ms Nadia Daeng Rée will reflect on her own journey as a caregiver and how having empathy for others has helped her build a better partnership with healthcare providers, whilst assuring her loved ones at the same time. People do not think of healthcare institutions or clinics as places where they intend to cause harm. However, when overwhelmed with concern, feeling heard and understood is most pertinent to keep the peace in communication. It is how Nadia has been able to ensure over the years that optimal care could be facilitated not just for her loved ones but also as a caregiver/patient herself.
