Vascular Surgery
During the attachment, participants will gain in-depth knowledge in managing patients with vascular problems.
Vascular Surgery is a subspecialty of Department of General Surgery. It serves the biggest pool of patients with vascular problems in Singapore. Multi-disciplinary team concept is adopted to provide the patients with holistic care and rehabilitative service necessary to return them to an acceptable quality of life.
The Vascular Unit is located within Ward 58 to serve the diverse range of vascular problems such as limbs ischaemia, venous leg ulcers, renal failure patients who require vascular access, abdominal aortic aneuysm repair, varicose veins and vascular wound management.
The team comprised surgeons, technologists, a scientist, a vascular fellow, a nurse clinician, a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist, the nursing staff and research coordinators. The Vascular Nurse Clinician provides and conducts patient teaching, discharge planning and inservices to patients and nurses in the vascular wound management.
At the clinical attachment, participants will learn:
Vascular nursing care
Vascular wound care
Anatomy and pathophysiology
Pre- and post-operative teaching
Discharge advice and rehabilitation
Rounds and field visits to Surgical Ward, Specialist Outpatients Clinic and Vascular Studies Unit
Target Audience
Registered nurses with at least 2 years of post-registration experience
Currently working in the general surgery or vascular surgery or diabetes or orthopaedic ward
