This workshop is intended to assist nurses and allied health professionals undertaking research to understand the requirements of being a peer reviewer for a journal manuscript, and in the process, learn to craft helpful reviews. The workshop consists of two hours of instruction.
The workshop will cover the following topics:
• Goals of peer review
• Making the decision to peer review a manuscript
• Structure of a manuscript review: comments to editors vs comments to authors
• Points to consider when undertaking a review: relevance, internal validity, external validity, level of evidence, ethical conduct
• Manuscript decision (accept, minor revision, major revision, reject) and the reasoning behind it
At the end of the workshop, attendees should gain a better understanding of the responsibilities of a peer reviewer, as well as gain the basic precepts behind crafting a constructive peer review of a journal manuscript.

About the Trainer:
Heok Hee is currently the managing editor for the Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare. He received his PhD in Biology from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has extensive experience in research and scientific writing. He has published 200 papers in scientific journals, six chapters in five books, and 25 articles for popular magazines.
