Genetics Education for Healthcare Professionals

This half-day interactive workshop focuses on the clinical application of genetic testing, the practical aspects of genetic counselling and the current legal framework regulating genetic testing. Healthcare professionals will be equipped with practical up-to-date knowledge in these areas to provide the best care to their patients.

Participants will have access to lectures prior to attending the workshop to set the foundation. To maximize the learning experience, it is a pre-requisite for all participants to complete this series prior to attending the workshop. A certificate of attendance will be issued to all participants, upon successful completion of the workshop.

This workshop is jointly developed by Genetics Service, Department of Paediatrics, KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH) and SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of PRecIsion Medicine (PRISM), and supported by SingHealth Academy. CME points will be awarded to participants (if applicable) upon Singapore Medical Council’s approval of the accreditation application.

Learning Objectives

Course outline:

• Genetic Variation in Human Disease - Chromosomal Disorders, Single Gene Disorders and Inheritance Patterns
• Genetic Testing Methodologies - which test is most appropriate for my patient?
• Variant Analysis, Interpretation and Genetic Counselling
• Informed consent and related ethical, social and legal issues
• Standards on Clinical Genetic/Genomic Testing Services & Clinical Laboratory Genetic/Genomic Testing Services
• Genetic Testing in Specialised Populations e.g., carrier testing in minors, Huntington Disease testing in  
   asymptomatic individuals, etc.


Target Audience

 

• Doctors who want to discuss and order genetic tests for their patients
• Allied health professionals who wish discuss genetic testing that is being offered to their patients

Course Fees

S$300 (SingHealth staff, fees subjected to prevailing GST)
S$350 (Non-SingHealth staff, fees subjected to prevailing GST) 

NOTE: The full course fee will be charged for withdrawal received once the class is confirmed. Replacement should be made at least two weeks in advance
