For Poster-Ity's Sake: Tips For A Successful Research Poster


Now that you've had your abstract accepted for a conference, it's time to prepare the poster. Don't know where to begin? This workshop is intended to assist novice conference attendees understand what goes into a successful research poster. Along the way, you will learn the dos and don'ts in creating an arresting research poster that grabs attention and makes others want to know more about your research. The workshop consists of two hours of instruction.

Learning Objectives

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • Planning and scheduling for your poster
  • Elements of an effective layout for your poster
  • Tips for effective use of headings, graphics, text and colours
  • How to convincingly present the results of your research at your poster
  • Critiquing actual posters to ensure your understanding of the basic precepts

At the end of the workshop, attendees should understand the basic principles behind making a successful research poster, as well as how to effectively present your research at a poster session.


Target Audience

Administrators, clinicians, nurses and allied health professionals who are preparing a poster for a scientific conference for the first time. Experienced conference attendees who wish to improve on their poster-making skills (and perhaps win best poster awards) are also welcome.

Dr Ng Heok Hee

About the Trainer:
Heok Hee is currently the managing editor for the Proceedings of Singapore Healthcare. He received his PhD in Biology from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has extensive experience in research and scientific writing. He has published 200 papers in scientific journals, six chapters in five books, and 25 articles for popular magazines.
