The second in a series of workshops on effectively preparing your manuscript for publication, this workshop aims to examine the ways in which you can effectively deliver the research message in your manuscript. This workshop is intended to assist beginning researchers understand the principles of writing compelling Methods, Results and Discussion sections for their journal manuscripts. The basis of dealing with references in your journal manuscript (when, where and how should references be cited?) is also briefly outlined in this workshop. The workshop consists of two hours of instruction.

 

Learning Objectives

The workshop will cover the following topics:

  • What to do and to avoid when drafting your Methods, Results and Discussion sections in your manuscript
  • Examples of signals to use to effectively deliver your message in each of these sections
  • Common problems encountered in the Methods, Results and Discussion sections
  • References: when, where and how to cite them

At the end of the workshop, attendees should understand the basis of writing Methods, Results and Discussion sections that cogently deliver the research message of your paper to your readers. Attendees will also understand when, where and how references should be cited in their manuscripts. A series of exercises reinforces the concepts imparted.
