ReXilience® Course: Post-Incident Dialogue with Empathy

Staff exposed to critical incidents may perceive and experience these events as threats to their safety or disruptors to the stability of their world.  While most individuals have a baseline of resilience which allows them to cope with the impact, some may need additional help to recover from physical and emotional distress. An empathic ear, a compassionate colleague and a caring team will help in the recovery process.

This course provides leaders with the skills to convey factual information to keep their staff abreast of the challenging situations, reduce speculation among staff, raise awareness of the actions taken and acknowledge the emotional distress experienced by individuals in the team.

Learning Objectives

At the course, participants will learn:
  • Identify the signs and symptoms of stress and crisis reactions
  • Integrate empathic communication techniques when conducting post-incident dialogues
  • Apply the five-step process when conducting post-incident dialogues
  • Practise self-care techniques to prevent compassion fatigue
