Basic Capital Budgeting & Project Evaluation (Module 2)


This is 1 of the 3 revised basic accounting and finance modules with enhanced topics tailored to persons without prior finance knowledge or background.  Each of the 3 modules are independent of each other.  They can be attended in any sequence.


Learning Objectives

After attending this module, participants should be able to:

1. Identify the typical types of cash-flows in a project;
2. Understand the important concept of time value of money;
3. Discount cash-flows to present values;
4. Apply project evaluation techniques for decision-making;
5. Know how to resolve potential conflicts in evaluation;
6. Deal with capital constraints for undertaking multiple projects

Training methodology:  Explanation of theories and concepts, practical worksheets, comprehensive project evaluation case study and group discussions.

  • Types of cash-flows
  • Simple Payback
  • Discounted cash-flow methods
  • Time value of money
  • Present value 
  • Cost of capital 
  • Project evaluation techniques
  • Potential conflicts in evaluation;
  • Captial budgeting with captial constraints

Target Audience
Any persons with no prior accounting or finance background but is keen to see and understand how to evaluate the cash-flows of a project to be submitted for approval.
