Basic ECG Interpretation II (NHCS)

This programme aims to enable the nurses to acquire the skills and knowledge ito interpret basic 12 lead ECG.

This course is organised by National Heart Centre Singapore. 

Course Outline: 

  • Outline the fundamentals of ECG.
  • Explain the determination of electrical axis, heart rate and ECG waveforms. 
  • Outline the approach to rhythm analysis. 
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in interpreting 12 Lead ECG. 
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in identifying common atrial arrhythmias. 
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in identifying common AV Junctional/Supraventricular arrhythmias. 
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in identifying common ventricular arrhythmias.
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in identifying common bundle branch block pattern. 
  • Demonstrate skills and knowledge in identifying common metabolic electrolytes and drug induced abnormal ECG pattern. 
  • Identify two problems associated with cardiac pacing. 

Target Audience: 

  1. All Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses who have successfully completed the Basic ECG Interpretation I (NHCS). 
  2. Registered Nurses that has completed the Advanced Diploma in Critical Care Nursing (need not have to go through the Basic ECG Interpretation I), are eligible for Basic ECG Interpretation II.
