Ms Irene Quay, Chief Pharmacist at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), heads the department in the area of Medication Safety, Clinical Quality and Audit, Pharmacy Automation, Clinical Pharmacy Service, Research and Education. She is involved in a number of hospital committees including the KKH Patient Safety Council, the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, KKH Medication Safety, the KKH Data Analytics Committee, and the Joint Commission International Core Committee.

 

At Singapore Ministry of Health (MOH) and Professional level, she is a member of the MOH Pharmacy Specialists Accreditation Board, the MOH Pro-Tem Committee for Pharmacy Specialisation in Paediatrics, the MOH Drug Advisory Committee and the Singapore Drug Dictionary Steering Committee.

 

Ms Quay played a key role in the implementation of the Close Loop Medication Management project in KKH in 2010. The project involved electronic inpatient ordering, 24 hours pharmacist verification, Inpatient Pharmacy Automation System and Knowledge-Based Medication Administration. In November 2013, she worked with her anaesthetists and nurses to champion the implementation of medication storage automation in KKH operating theatres.

 

In March 2015, Irene led her Pharmacy team in the rollout of the KKH Emergency Pharmacy Automation project. The significant innovations and improved patient safety from the project has led the team to win several local, regional and international awards. She is currently working on developing the Paediatric Pharmacy specialisation and Residency Programme, aiming to bring clinical pharmacists to greater heights of clinical practice.
