Presentation Synopsis
HM 1 - Transforming Ourselves into the Health System of the Future

Healthcare systems globally face numerous challenges, including rising demand due to an ageing population, escalating costs of care, a worldwide rise in obesity prevalence, shortages in healthcare personnel, staff burnout and uneven access to care. Transforming health systems and healthcare for the future is a pressing and universal endeavour. At the NUHS, we have begun the journey to transform into the health system of the future. This is organised across four pillars: the healthcare workforce, new models of care, technology and innovation, and system enablers. These workstreams address fundamental strategic shifts - an emphasis on prevention of disease and late-stage complications to reduce demand of acute care and contain costs; leveraging technology to reduce burden on the workforce and increase productivity; and redesigning how healthcare professionals work in order to overcome the constraints presented by workforce shortages. This talk aims to discuss the efforts, targets and early outcomes under each of the four pillars which serve as a dynamic framework driving the systemic, simultaneous and transformative change necessary for health systems to achieve better health outcomes for patients and populations in a sustainable manner.
