Biographical Sketch

Ms Patricia Joseph
manages all collaborative and liaison activities between Duke University, Duke-NUS and SingHealth. She has worked with the Senior Vice Chancellor for International Strategies, the Vice-Chancellor for Duke-NUS Affairs and the Dean of Duke-NUS to form administrative structures to support the Duke-NUS and SingHealth Academic Medicine initiatives. Due to her strong background in academic medicine administration, she has a wealth of experience in training employees and other administrators in various health care settings including SingHealth.

Prior to this position, she served for 17 years as Chief Administrator for a clinical academic department at Duke School of Medicine. She assisted the Chairs with forming strategic initiatives and administrative structures. She also has prior experience managing outpatient clinics in an academic setting as well as developed a network of outpatient clinics throughout the state of North Carolina linked to Duke. In addition, she has served as a marketing director in more than one health care setting.

Synopsis

Ms Patricia has over 20 years’ experience in management in an academic setting and is certified in Business Process Management. 

With her vast experience in Administrative Excellence, she will provide an overview of the best practices in academic medicine administration in Duke Medicine, as well as the importance of understanding integration of process management across the three academic missions: clinical service, research and education.  

Ms Patricia will also speak on the instrumental role that Healthcare Administrators play in Academic Medicine transformation and how they can inculcate the practice of process improvement into daily work and have a mindset of "curiosity".
