IM POCUS Course
The SGH IM POCUS Course is designed to provide high-quality instruction of fundamental POCUS skills to enhance the clinical management of acutely ill patients. The course comprises of pre-reading materials, interactive lectures, and a heavy focus on hands-on scanning of healthy volunteers and patients with real pathology. Teaching faculty include local and international experts with extensive training and experience in POCUS, with a low instructor-to-learner ratio of 1:3 at scanning stations. It covers the basic principles and foundational skills for the use of POCUS in Internal Medicine, including answering common clinical questions to facilitate rapid diagnosis and effective decision-making.
The aim of this workshop is to provide a structured curriculum to teach the basic and advanced ultrasound techniques and to instill in the trainees the best practices for point-of-care ultrasound training.
At the end of the workshop, trainees will have an understanding of ultrasound physics, knobology and basic skills to perform and interpret the ultrasound images. Trainees will also learn the application of ultrasound techniques in various body systems, from basic applications such as e-FAST in trauma, abdominal aorta and gallbladder scans, to advanced applications such as lung ultrasound and ultrasound-guided procedures (e.g. insertion of central venous lines and manipulation and reduction of fractures).
