Trained in Operating Theatre (OT) nursing, Ms Philomena Liew had spent:

• 2 years in general ward nursing
• 16 years performing different roles in OT at both private & teaching hospitals
• 11 years in Central Sterile Processing operations & management and
• 17 years to date, in nursing administration covering CSSD, Endoscopy, Peri-Operative Services, Day Surgery Ward with 23 hr care and Same Day Admission plus Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) Nursing in Changi General Hospital, Singapore

Ms Liew attained a Level II sterilisation technician certification from Germany. Teaching and education are essential in Peri-op, Endoscopy Nursing, CSSD and IPC practices; she subscribes to HSPA and AAMI since 2003, to remain current in disinfection, reprocessing and sterilisation matters.

Driven by the needs to improve outcome, safety and sustainable practices, Ms Liew implemented the instrument tracking system in 2003, which was recently upgraded after 20 years. In March 2024, AMR is used to transport sterile items to OTs and Clinics.

Currently, Ms Liew is setting up the CSSD at EGH, the facility will have ASRS for sterile storage and AMRs will be used to transfer instruments from the sinks to the washers or unload from the washers to the packing stations.
