Session 5.1.1
Human Factors in Facilities and Process Design for Infection Prevention & Control Effectiveness
Date: 14 Oct 2026 | Time: 1435 - 1455 | Venue: The NAK Auditorium, Academia
Speaker: Mr Johnathan Siew
Infection Prevention & Control effectiveness depends not only on policies and training, but also importantly on how healthcare environments and processes are designed. Suboptimal spatial layouts, poorly positioned hand hygiene stations, unclear zoning, and workflow misalignment can unintentionally increase contamination risks and cognitive load for staff trying to do the right thing. Applying Human Factors & Ergonomics (HF/E) principles offers a systems-based approach to proactively design upstream facilities and workflows that make infection-safe practices the path of least resistance.
