The initiative at Sengkang General Hospital (SKH) to implement ‘Eco Mode’ in Operating Theatres is a well-structured approach aimed at achieving significant sustainability outcomes. 

The primary issue identified was the high energy consumption and substantial carbon footprint associated with traditional Operating Theatres, which rely on non-recirculating air conditioning systems. These systems treat 100% outdoor air, leading to increased operational costs and environmental impact. The desired outcome is to maintain patient safety and equipment integrity while significantly lowering energy use and carbon emissions. 

SKH's commitment to extend 'Eco Mode' to 24/7 operation by 2027 reinforces its leadership in sustainable healthcare practices. This data-driven approach serves as a benchmark for other healthcare institutions, showcasing how to effectively integrate patient safety with environmental responsibility.
