Course on Venepuncture and Peripheral Intravenous Cannulation

This curriculum is designed for the Registered Nurses (RNs) and Enrolled Nurses (ENs). It is a core programme for SGH nurses aims to enable participants acquires knowledge and skills in performing the skills effectively and efficiently to ensure the delivery of safe, holistic and quality care of the patients.

Participants will learn to:

• State the hospital protocol and guidelines in venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation

• Discuss the indication of venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation

• List the requisites for venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation

• State the criteria for selection veins

• State the basic principles in venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation

• Perform venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation correctly and safely

• Discuss nurses’ role and responsibilities in managing complications of venepuncture and peripheral intravenous cannulation
