Basic Wound Management Course

This course provides a foundational understanding of basic wound management for Registered Nurses, Principal Enrolled Nurses and Senior Enrolled Nurses. They will learn from case studies and hands on activities curated to enhance decision making abilities when applying nursing interventions based on wound assessment for their patients. Through eLearning and workshop activities, they will learn to recognise matters requiring escalation, initiate collaborative interventions to minimise deterioration into complex wounds and recurrence. 

 

Participants will learn to:

  • Demonstrate wound assessment and documentation using MEASURE framework and Triangle of Wound Assessment
  • Understand arterial, venous, diabetes mellitus and vasculitis leg ulcers management
  • Describe the prevention, classification of pressure injuries, skin tears and management
  • Differentiate pressure injury and incontinence associated dermatitis
  • Identify common dermatological causes and demonstrate management
  • Demonstrate bandaging and application of adhesives in a safe manner
  • List available dressing categories and their functions
  • Demonstrate stoma pouching for non-complicated stoma

 

Target Audience

Registered Nurses, Principal Enrolled Nurses, Senior Enrolled Nurses working in hospital or intermediate long term care setting

 

Exclusion Criteria

Nurses who have attended

  • Advanced Diploma Course or equivalent
  • Graduate Certificate or higher in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Practice
  • Resident Nurse Training Programme
  • Return to Nursing Programme
