We live in BANI times—Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear and Incomprehensible. Over the past 6 to 12 months, the world has witnessed seismic shifts that have profoundly shaken up traditional and comfortable geopolitical alignments, accelerated global climate change, and generated unprecedented opportunity and threat through the advancement of Artificial Intelligence. Today, more than ever, what is needed is clear-thinking and decisive leadership, grounded in an unswerving belief in doing what is morally correct and focussed on the collective good.

Amidst this milieu, CHeAL stands together with all our sister colleges across the SingHealth Education enterprise in empowering and facilitating all our staff in navigating complexity and turbulence. Within our multifaceted and highly intricate healthcare endeavour, leaders at all levels are constantly called upon to make decisions that have immediate and longer-term impact on patient and staff care and well-being. CHeAL is therefore a deliberate and extensive investment in our people in strengthening professional competence, but also in building up confidence, resilience, flexibility and a shared purpose of doing the best we can for our colleagues and our community.

I am regularly reminded that Today’s mighty oak is simply Yesterday’s little nut that stood its ground. Let us then as individual saplings hold fast to and deepen our values and capability roots as we work collectively at continually nurturing and growing the mighty oak of SingHealth, and realising our vision of putting patients and staff at the heart of all we do.

The establishment of the College of Healthcare Administration and Leadership (CHeAL) is a testimony of SingHealth's commitment toward educating and readying all staff for the rapidly changing medical landscape. In CHeAL, we ensure that our leaders, administrators and staff are well-equipped for any current and future national healthcare situation and are fully developed with knowledge in generic, domain-specific and management competencies.

The partnership between Strategic HR (SHR) and the Office of SingHealth Academy (OSHA) leads to better oversight and coordination of training programmes. The College synergises our collective resources and expertise in leadership and organisational development, and learning technology to provide staff with a stronger understanding of SingHealth cluster's unique requirements. Through CHeAL, all SingHealth staff will benefit from robust training programmes designed with cluster-specific, work-relevant needs in mind and receive ample learning resources that support their training process.

CHeAL aspires to nurture staff into competent, confident and future-ready healthcare professionals who will lead SingHealth to greater achievements in patient care, clinical education and Academic Medicine. As CHeAL takes its first steps as a College, we seek to become a renowned Centre of Excellence for Healthcare Administration and Leadership.
