Healthcare is one of the fastest evolving sectors where change remains a constant. This dynamic landscape drives transformation within Singapore's public healthcare clusters, as well as nationally and globally. Change is a constant.

 

That said, what does not change is the "Why" of healthcare education.

 

Healthcare education is about people who remain at the centre of all we do in education. Whether one is a learner, faculty member or SingHealth staff, healthcare education is about improving people. Our collective improvement will translate downstream to even better care and health outcomes for the patients and populations that we serve.

At SingHealth Academy, our goals are to:

• Deliver quality healthcare education across diverse health professions.
• Strengthen our faculty through formal and informal faculty development, focussing not only on competencies such as teaching, assessment and feedback, but also on educator values and identity.
• Adopt an interprofessional approach to healthcare education, recognising that in diversity lies strength.
• Adopt a systems approach to healthcare education.

With that, as we progress in our respective journeys, I urge my colleagues in healthcare education to always remind ourselves about the "Why" of healthcare education: It is all about improving the health of patients and our population.

Simply put, we are in education so that our learners can improve. And when our learners provide better care, the health of our patients and population can then improve.

Together, as healthcare educators, we can do good for the people of Singapore in helping them keep well, get well and live well.
