Given the nature of our consultations, the subspecialty of infectious diseases requires strong knowledge of both general medical and surgical diseases alike. The three years of internal medicine training have better prepared me for what lies ahead in this increasingly challenging field of Infectious Diseases, in the light of newer immunosuppressive therapies, more advanced surgical techniques and more multidrug-resistant microorganisms just to name a few. I am grateful to my mentors from the training programme, without whom I would not have become who I am today.
