Mr Andy Sim is a Principal Medical Social Worker with the Department of Medical Social Services in Singapore General Hospital (SGH). He is a social work educator and supervisor and has been credited for spearheading advance care planning (ACP) training and services in SGH. Andy is a Certified Thanatologist (ADEC, USA) and holds a Master of Social Work degree from New York University (NYU), USA. He is also a fellow of the Zelda Foster Studies Program in Palliative and End-of-Life Care (PELC) and Leadership Programme in NYU. Andy’s clinical interest lies in PELC social work practice, healthcare communication, clinical ethics, and ACP. He is actively involved in educating healthcare professionals and is a member of the Lien Centre for Palliative Care (LCPC) workgroup to create and develop the inaugural Palliative Care Course for Social Workers (PCCSW) in Singapore. In addition to his appointment in the National ACP Office Training and Curriculum Committee and Workgroup for ACP Implementation in Outpatient Setting, Mr Andy is also a member of the Singapore Hospice Council’s Grief and Bereavement Sub-committee. He also co-chairs the Renal Social Worker Community of Practice (CoP).
Mr Andy was awarded the Golden Apple-Outstanding Young Educator Award (Allied Health Category) from the DUKE-NUS, Academic Medicine Education Institute (AM.EI) in 2015.
