Having a multidisciplinary congress like this is very useful. The tracks for the Academic Clinical Programmes sets a standard and creates a platform for interprofessional as well as inter-institutional staff to come together to share on research, education and clinical service advancement.

The incidence of type 2 diabetes has increased globally, and particularly in Singapore, over the last few decades and this shows no sign of abating. Changes in dietary habits, increased sedentary lifestyle, and decreased exercise all contribute to this problem. The issue of diabetes needs to be addressed even before disease has set in, ie prevention. For patients who suffer from diabetes, they are at risk of a multitude of medical problems, like heart disease, kidney failure, blindness, infections, and so forth. Hence, a multidisciplinary approach must be taken through involvement of diabetes nurse educators, dieticians, podiatrist, physiotherapists, and physicians. Central to all of this, is the patient. Patient education and self-management of type 2 diabetes is crucial in the successful management of this condition.
In this symposium, we will address various facets in the management of patients with type 2 diabetes.
TOPIC 1:
Self-management Education: When and How?
TOPIC 2:
Impaired Awareness of Hypoglycaemia
TOPIC 3:
Flash Glucose Monitoring - Implications for Clinical Practice
TOPIC 4:
