Dr Viknes is a Senior Consultant in the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Singapore General Hospital. He is also an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Duke-NUS Medical School and Clinical Senior Lecturer at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

Dr Viknes is presently involved in investigator-initiated clinical and translational studies focused on understanding the biological mechanisms linking a sedentary lifestyle to colorectal cancer.  He is also the clinical Principal Investigator for a multidisciplinary collaboration, working on developing a device to facilitate the safe insertion of nasogastric feeding tubes and preventing tracheal misplacement.
