Dr Ming-Keng TEOH

Dr Teoh is Head of Medical Services (Asia) at the Medical Protection Society (MPS). He is based in the MPS London office but spends a lot of time in Asia assisting members in MPS’ key jurisdictions of Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.


Dr Teoh was born in Penang, educated in St Xavier’s Institution and received his Medical degree from Bristol University in 1980. After his surgical training in the United Kingdom he returned to Malaysia in 1987 to work as a vascular and general surgeon in Kuala Lumpur General Hospital. He joined the National University of Malaysia in 1988 as a lecturer and later became an Associate Professor. He helped to set up the country’s vascular surgery service. Dr Teoh completed his vascular research thesis on antioxidants and arterial disease in 1994 and was awarded ChM by Bristol University. He joined Singapore General Hospital as consultant vascular surgeon in 1994, was later promoted to Senior Consultant and Director of the Vascular Surgery Unit in 1996.

In 2004, he completed his MSc in Health Management at the Imperial College Business School (London) and joined MPS as a medicolegal adviser. He obtained his LL.M from Cardiff University and completed his dissertation on Medical negligence and litigation risks in Telemedicine as his special area of interest. He was appointed to his current position as Head of Medical Services (Asia) at MPS in 2008.

His previous appointments include being Founding President of the Vascular Surgical Society Singapore; President of the Asian Vascular Society; Senior Clinical Lecturer National University of Singapore; Member of Council College of Surgeons of Malaysia; and examiner in Malaysia, Singapore and Pakistan. He has published and lectured extensively in surgical, vascular and medicolegal topics.

Dr Teoh’s interests include medical ethics and helping doctors be happier; and he hopes to increase professional satisfaction in the medical profession through less fear and a greater understanding of medicolegal issues.
