Dr Daniel TAN Shao Weng

Dr Daniel Tan is a Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Division of Medical Oncology, National Cancer Centre and a Clinician-Scientist Fellow at Genome Institute of Singapore. He has a sub-speciality interest in thoracic, head and neck oncology, as well as drug development. He is currently Director of the Experimental Cancer Therapeutics Unit—running 35–40 early phase studies (including First-in-Human trials), as well Principal Investigator of the Cancer Therapeutics Research Laboratory—focused on unraveling mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapeutics. He is also a disease lead in POLARIS, which aims to bring next generation sequencing in to the clinic, and the Lung Cancer Translational Clinical Research grant (2013–2018), a cross institutional platform to study unique molecular subsets of lung cancer.

He has received multiple research awards including European Society of Medical Oncology Congress Travel Award, American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Merit Awards and an ASCO Young Investigator Award. He currently serves on the Education Committee of the International Association for Study of Lung Cancer and is an Associate Editor for Journal of Thoracic Oncology. His primary research interest is in the rational design of science-driven clinical trials to accelerate the development of novel agents and biomarkers in the clinic.
