Dr Alvin Eng is the Director of the Bariatric Surgery Service at the Singapore General Hospital. He holds academic appointments as Adjunct Assistant Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore and with Duke-NUS Medical School. In addition, Dr Eng teaches at the Nanyang Polytechnic School of Nursing. He also conducts hands-on courses for post-graduate surgical training in upper gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery.

Dr Eng is an Executive Committee member of the Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society of Singapore. He also holds memberships to various other professional bodies such as the International Gastric Cancer Association, American Society for Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery, International Federation of Surgery for Metabolic and Obesity Disorders, the Endoscopic & Laparoscopic Surgeons of Asia and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. His current research interests are in the field of advanced laparoscopy, bariatric and metabolic surgery and upper gastrointestinal malignancies.
