Fellowship

The SingHealth Duke-NUS Institute of Medical Simulation (SIMS) fellowship curriculum is structured to align with the programme's mission and vision. It includes activities that promote advocacy in Simulation-Based Education (SBE), enabling fellows to learn and apply SBE concepts directly. Fellows will engage in SIMS' immersive roles as simulation educators, operators and administrators so that they can be skilled in their respective roles.

Sited within the largest healthcare system in Singapore, the programme provides fellows with access to a diverse group of clinical mentors who are subject matter experts, available for consultation on clinical discipline education needs. These SIMS subject experts who are accredited in Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator® (CHSE®), Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator-Advanced® (CHSE-A®) or Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist® (CHSOS®) will serve as mentors and faculty in simulation administration and operations, curriculum development, debriefing and facilitation.

From fellowship enrolment to completion, SIMS oversees the network of fellows to strengthen the community of practice locally, regionally and internationally.

Beyond the main host site, fellows may apply to rotate their fellowship among the four SIMS sites – Academia (SGH Campus), Changi General Hospital, KK Women's and Children's Hospital and Sengkang General Hospital. Rotation opportunities can be discussed during the initial interview and included in the fellowship application. Justification should include identified learning outcomes and how the rotation will enhance the fellowship outputs. Upon application review, a supervisor from the main host site and a buddy from each of the other SIMS sites in the rotation plan will be assigned.

The fellowship programme will vary in duration from two weeks to one year depending on individual needs, while ensuring a solid SBE foundation for each participant.
