Gerontology Nursing Course

This programme aims to provide Registered Nurses with the essential knowledge and skills in nursing management of older adults with multiple co-morbidities and also empower nurses to participate actively in ensuring that older people will continue to receive the best of care and support services from hospital setting to community setting.


At this course, participants will learn to:

  • Understand the impact of age related physical and physiologic changes to pathology

  • Explain the management of elderly patient with dementia, delirium and depression 

  • Outline Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA)

  • Discuss the management of incontinence and constipation

  • Discuss the role of nurses in fall prevention

  • Understand the concepts of frailty

  • Discuss the assessment of pain in elderly with cognitive disorders

  • Discuss the implications of polypharmacy
  • Explain the importance of adequate nutrition and hydration in elderly

  • Discuss the available common community resources and grant for older adults with disability.

  • Explain the importance of home safety for older adult
