Orthopaedic Surgery
The program aims to provide practicing nurses with advanced knowledge and skills in the management of patients with orthopaedic condition in the following areas, namely, adult reconstruction, sports medicine and trauma.
The Department of Orthopaedic is geared towards the improvement of patients' quality-of-life after an operation. The Department is managed by a team of experienced and skilled medical and nursing personnel. They provide specialised care for patients requiring joint replacement, spinal surgery and orthopaedic oncology.
The 2 orthopaedic wards are located at Block 7, Level 5 & 6, provide treatment and round-the-clock nursing care, accepting both emergency and elective orthopaedic cases.
The Department provides practical training for diploma in nursing course students, advanced diploma in orthopaedic nursing course trainees, overseas nursing trainees and medical students.
The wards are managed by senior nurse manager and nurse clinicians who have the overall responsibility for all activities in the department. Her team of experienced and skilled nurses continue to provide patient education and discharge teaching to assist patient in their recovery after operation.
At the clinical attachment, participants will learn:
Role and responsibility of an Orthopaedic Nurse Clinician
Explore current trends and management of orthopaedic condition in the area of specialty
Explore the application of coordinated clinical pathway in orthopaedics
Observe a pre-op education class for major surgery
Target Audience
Registered nurses with at least 3 years of clinical experience in managing orthopaedic patients
Currently working in an orthopaedic unit/ surgical unit
